CPUC clears Waymo fared driverless rides in expanded California territory including Sacramento and San Diego

California Public Utilities Commission staff approved Waymo advice letters clearing fared driverless passenger service in expanded territory that includes Sacramento and San Diego, and on the company’s Ojai (Zeekr-based) vans, with an Aug. 14 effective date described in Aug. 15 industry reporting. Waymo said rollout would be gradual; first paid-ride dates for the new cities were not named.
